Digital4Security Consortium Gathers Experts to Address Cybersecurity Challenges at National College of Ireland

The Digital4Security project, a pioneering European Masters Programme in Cybersecurity Management & Data Sovereignty, hosted a consortium gathering at the National College of Ireland in Dublin. The event brought together experts from various sectors including cybersecurity, academia, and digital security to explore and address the pressing challenges facing the industry.

The consortium was delighted to host Benn Blackburn, Advisory Security Solution Consultant at ServiceNow, Carmel Somers, Human Capital Strategist at ICT Skillnet, Michael Murphy, National Delegate and National Contact Point for Horizon Cluster 3 – Civil Security for Society, Giorgio Pedrazzi, Professor of Comparative Law and Data Governance at the University of Brescia, Dr. Sara Ricci, Researcher at the Applied Cryptography and Security Engineering unit of Brno University of Technology, and Ruxandra Chiroiu, Senior Security Engineering Manager at Booking Holdings Romania.

In particular, the event comprehensively addressed key aspects of the current cybersecurity landscape, including good practices, common challenges, collaborative solutions, industry-specific hurdles, skills shortages, European regulatory perspectives, and legal considerations.

“It is of the utmost importance to help and support cybersecurity students andprofessionals to stay on top of the ever-changing cybersecurity threat landscape. One efficient way to achieve this is fostering strong partnerships between the cybersecurity industry and Universities, especially through master’s programs that can be more effectively tailored to prepare students and security professionals for the challenges they will face in a cybersecurity career.”

Ruxandra Chiroiu, Senior Security Engineering Manager at Booking Holdings (Romania)

This consortium gathering marks a significant milestone for the Digital4Security project, fostering collaboration, innovation, and a shared commitment to securing our digital future. The event showcased the dedication of the consortium partners to equip European SMEs and companies with the essential cybersecurity skills needed to counteract existing and emerging threats.

In the digital age, data protection and security are not just IT issues but foundational legal pillars for every business. For SMEs, remaining vigilant and educated is not an option but a necessity, since the cost of non-compliance can far exceed the cost of education. As the legal landscape evolves, from GDPR to EU AI Act, so too must our approach to safeguarding our digital assets. Ignorance is not a defense; it’s a liability.”
