Program to Enhance the Digital Competencies of University Professors (RECOMP-ES)

In today’s global context, where technology is rapidly evolving and reshaping all sectors, higher education must adapt to new ways of teaching and learning. Recognizing the crucial role of digital skills in the academic field, the Federation of the Universities of the Islamic World (FUIW), an entity of the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO), in close collaboration with the Moroccan Ministry of Higher Education, Scientific Research and Innovation, has launched the Program to Enhance the Digital Competencies of University Professors (RECOMP-ES), in French: “Renforcement des Compétences Pédagogiques et Numériques des Enseignants Chercheurs (ReComp-ES)”.

This strategic initiative aims to equip Moroccan university professors with the skills to effectively integrate digital technologies into their work, adapt to the demands of 21st-century education and enhance both the quality and accessibility of higher education in Morocco.

Main Objectives of the Program

The program is designed to strengthen the digital competencies of university faculty, enabling them to:

  • Integrate digital tools into their teaching practices to promote active and participatory learning.
  • Facilitate the transition to hybrid and online learning models, ensuring educational continuity under any circumstances and expanding access for students across different regions.
  • Improve educational management and assessment processes using information technologies, enhancing communication and academic tracking.
  • Encourage collaboration and knowledge exchange between teachers and students via digital platforms that support teamwork and collective learning.

Expected Impact and Benefits for Higher Education

The program promises a significant transformation in Moroccan university education, with the following benefits:

Structure and Content

The program is based on a comprehensive plan that covers fundamental aspects for the development of digital skills, including:

  • Advanced use of digital educational platforms for the creation and management of content and activities.
  • Design and development of interactive teaching materials to engage students in active learning.
  • Implementation of hybrid teaching methodologies, combining the strengths of in-person and online education.
  • Use of collaborative digital tools to enhance communication and teamwork between faculty and students.
  • Training in digital assessment and academic monitoring through technological systems that enable efficient feedback.
  • Promotion of digital literacy in the university environment, ensuring that both faculty and students acquire basic and advanced digital skills.

The program involves international experts in digital education, who contribute specializedtheir experience to ensure high-quality training tailored to the Moroccan context.

This project is implemented by the Institute for Research, Innovation, and Educational Technology (UNIR iTED). UNIR iTED designs and implements this course; it is responsible for technological deployment and methodological support for teachers and students; and it delivers various sessions on Open Education and Learning Management Systems.
